Gurugram (Haryana): Gurugram Police have detained 13 suspected Bangladeshi nationals for allegedly staying illegally in the city and have initiated the procedure for their deportation, an official said.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Naveen Sharma said the Crime Branch had received information approximately a month ago that some Bangladeshi nationals were allegedly living illegally in India and working as labourers at various places in Gurugram.
“Acting on the intelligence received, the team detained 13 Bangladeshi nationals who were residing illegally in the country. After their documents were checked, it was confirmed that they had entered India unlawfully. Following this, deportation proceedings were initiated,” Sharma said.
He said the 13 detainees are being transported to Malda Town in West Bengal under the escort of an inspector and a team of 23 police personnel, where they will be handed over to the security agencies for further deportation procedures.
According to Sharma, the detained individuals had been residing in different areas of Gurugram, working as labourers and staying in rented accommodation.
The ACP also urged the public to assist law-enforcement authorities by reporting individuals they consider suspicious.
“We appeal to every citizen to support national security. If you come across suspicious individuals among tenants, labourers, domestic workers, hotel staff or construction workers, please share the information by calling 112 or contacting your nearest police station,” he said.
